[diy] Henna Pumpkins

If you saw my Pumpkin DIY Inspiration post last week, you know there are tons of ways to personalize your fall decorations to fit your home. These 'henna'd' pumpkins actually require no henna and are super simple to create. I found small faux pumpkins at Walmart for $2.97 each and used a Sharpie I had on hand. Watch the video below to see how I created my pumpkins!

Runway to Rave [MBNYFW S/S15]

Fashion month is in full swing and the inspiration just keeps coming! Like any good festival-goer, I am always thinking about outfits for upcoming events. Here are a few of the more reave-ready trends I've spotted on the runways this season.

Kaftans
Elder Statesman, Naeem Khan, Rachel Zoe Collection, The Row
Perfect for hot summer festivals with long sunny days, kaftans are light and breezy, while also providing more protection from the sun than your standard ravey outfit. They come in tons of prints and colors, as well as a bevy of varying necklines. Wear your kaftan with flat sandals and over a swimsuit for when you decide you need a little more vitamin D.

Feathers and Fringe
Betsey Johnson, Proenza Schouler
Special embellishments like feathers and fringe add a luxe feeling to any outfit. These fun details even move with you when you dance!

 Bodysuits and Cutouts
Anna Sui
Bodysuits and leotards are an ever evolving trend. I'm loving leotards with cutouts paired with simple accessories for a more sophisticated feel.

Fanny Packs
Elizabeth and James, Anna Sui
Fanny packs have always been my go-to rave bag. These chic refreshed versions are the perfect hands-free way to keep your belongings safe.

 Dusters
DAKS
An duster-style open dress is a fun way to add drama to your look without too much bulk. Leave it open when its hot, and wrap yourself up when the night cools down.

 Faux Fur
J. Mendel
Plush accessories have always been a rave staple. Trade your fluffy boot covers for sophisticated pieces in bright colors, like this pale yellow faux fur vest.

Clear Vinyl Everythangggg
Lisa Perry
Clear vinyl clothing can add tons of dimension to an outfit. Bonus: its raver-rain-proof and won't be totally wrecked at the end of a long sweaty night.

Chaps
Maison Martin Margiela
Don't think I forgot about country music festivals. Chaps are a great way to cover up that American flag bikini as you toast to the country it represents. Extra points for fringe down the sides!

Boot Covers
Rodarte
Although these awesome lace-up boots wouldn't be very practical at a rave, lace up "boot covers" for your legs would look fantastic with some booty shorts.
Kreative Kandi
Jeremy Scott
Miley Cyrus' jewelry-making skills rival her other talents, as she proved with her plastic beaded pretties at the Jeremy Scott show. I love the idea of taking kandi beyond bracelets, cuffs, and masks, and expanding to long necklaces and asymmetrical earrings.

I especially loved the headdresses paired with some of the outfits! The combination of colors, textures, and media could be customized to any personality or match any outfit. I see a DIY project in my near future!

What trends did you see at New York Fashion Week that you would get festy in? Would you try any of these ideas? Which of these would you like to see a DIY tutorial for? Leave a comment and let me know!

As fall makes it's annual debut, New York fashion week comes to a close, and its already time to start planning our shopping lists for next spring. There were tons of amazing shows at Lincoln Center this season, and lots of recurring silhouettes and trends. Here are some of my favorites!

[diy inspiration] Glamping

I've never been to a camping festival, but I always daydream about hanging out at a colorful campsite, listening to great music with friends. Even though the great outdoors isn't always my thing, camping can be so fun when you're prepared. I know I'll make it to a camping festival soon, where I can sleep under the stars with my festy-besties, and I can't wait to try these simple and pretty tricks that transform plain old camping into a stylish weekend getaway.
String up a lantern and some mosquito netting for a simple setup [source]
Click through to learn how to recreate this shade tent that can be pitched anywhere  [source]
Throw a movie-night for your camping buddies with a sheet and a projector [source]
Mix printed sheets and blankets hung over twine to recreate this beautiful bohemian tent [source]
Make this portable fire pit for a little extra warmth at your next excursion [source]
Tee pees are easy to DIY, can be made with light or heavy fabrics depending on your weather conditions, and when you're ready to go home, just fold up and go! [source]
Add flowers to the entrance of your tent or tee pee for a simple, but pretty, touch [source]
String lights between your tent and out-house to keep campers from getting lost, or around your campsite for a little extra light when your campfire dies down [source]
Simple camping hacks are endless, but what's your favorite trick when you're out in the wilderness? Do you prefer "glamping" to regular camping?

Fall Transition Essentials

Labor Day is barely over and Christmas decor is already on the shelves. We are flying towards Halloween, pumpkin-spice latte's, and sweater weather-- Do not pass Go. Do not collect two-hundred dollars. It's still warm here in Southern California, but I'm predicting a few cool nights in our near future. As I anxiously await the release of the Alexander Wang x H&M collection and celebrate weekly Crimson Tide wins, I need a few essentials to hold me over until I can pull out the gloves and beanies.
Cause right now, I just wanna do pumpkin-flavored, cinnamon-sprinkled, crunchy-leaf, fall-themed things with my frannnnnds!

1. Chunky Cardigan. Cardigans are perfect for almost-fall weather because you can layer one over an outfit without committing to the full-sweater experience. The chunkier, the better!
(Fairground "Can Can Sweater", Dollskill)
2. Black Tights. Tights and leggings are the best way to get a few more wears out of your summer dresses before it gets too cold. Patterned tights take it up another level, and these garter-printed tights are extra adorable. You can also wear them with longer sweaters and tunics when weather permits.
(Pretty Polly "Suspended Tights", Nordstrom)
3. Pumpkin Candle. Starbucks reintroduced their "Pumpkin Spice" flavored drinks early this year, but save yourself some empty calories by cutting the cravings with a pumpkin scented candle.
("Pumpkin Cupcake" Mason Jar Candle, Bath&Body Works)
4. Dark Lip-stain. Oxblood tones are everything for fall-- Lip-stains are great for lasting wear, and you can add balm over it to keep the winter wind from chapping your kisser.
(YSL, Vernis À Lèvres Glossy Stain "Fuchsia Cubiste",  Sephora)
5. Scarf. This is an obvious one. Wear a scarf around your neck for a little extra warmth, or tie it on your purse handles if it warms up. This gray scarf has a neutral color that could work with lots of outfits, and the pom pom trim is a sweet detail.
(F21 Pom Pom Scarf, Forever 21)
6. Long-sleeved Maxi Dresses. Sleeves make this summer staple work for the cooler months. Wear a basic long-sleeve tee under a simple maxi to get double mileage out of your summer-wear, or pick up a version with the sleeves already attached.
(F21 Baroque Print Maxi Dress, Forever 21)
7.  Snow White Nails. I've been obsessed with white nails all summer, and almost considered listing a gray or nude tone as my polish favorite for fall, but white is still trending! This mani will carry you all the way through the matching winter snowfall.
(Butter London "Cotton Buds", Sephora)
8. Gray Riding Boots. Tuck skinny jeans, tights, or over-the-knee socks into some simple boots for a classic fall look that will also keep your toes warm. Choose a gray tone that you can pair with lots of colors or even other neutrals.
(Buckle Knee Riding Boots, MakeMeChic.com)

What do you love most about the autumn months? Is it the return of football or the return of artificial pumpkin flavoring? What are your absolute must-haves for transitioning from summer to fall?
