We all have times in our lives when we just aren't feeling it. Energy is low, procrastination is up, and it seems like things are just standing still. Personally, I've been in a sort of transition stage, and there are plenty of days where I feel locked in limbo. Nothing is happening.
The problem with this is that it's not true. The outside world is still turning while I camp out in my bedroom blanket fort watching Gossip Girl from start to finish on Netflix. It's not like there was any reason or event or moment that suddenly sapped my energy and drove me to sleep in instead of step it up. I've just been lacking motivation.
Decide exactly what your goals are. Write them down, giving yourself a plan and a timeline. It doesn't have to be a minute-by-minute breakdown, but think about a month, six months, or a year from now. Sometimes its hard. Start with one small goal and build from there. Get excited. Immerse yourself in whatever your goal is. Read about it. Google it. Practice it. Talk to people about it. You don't have to start right away-- mark it on the calendar. Get excited and let the energy build until you can't keep yourself from beginning any longer.
Doing things alone can be really difficult. Find a friend or family member with a similar goal. Reach out to someone who has already accomplished what you want to do and ask them for advice. Some post online on social media to hold themselves accountable. Join an online support group. Find a confidante who will listen and give positive feedback or constructive criticism.
Think about it every day. Set a photo of your goal as your computer desktop. Put alarms and reminders on your phone. I like to write mantras on sticky notes and put them on my mirror where I get ready every day. Commit to doing one small thing every day that will help you reach your goal, and build on those habits. Remind yourself how excited you were when you started. If you lose motivation, it will come back-- return to inspiration. Don't give yourself five more minutes. Don't wait until tomorrow. And don't give up.
Remember and accept that you will fail many times before you succeed. There's an ebb and flow of good and bad on any journey. Don't let negative thinking replace your positive power. Squash the bad thoughts and move along. If you've learned from your setbacks, you are still moving forward. Don't let the tiny bumps in the road grow into roadblocks. Ride it out, keep pushing forward, and you will always be able to accomplish anything you desire.
