The Mingei International Museum is located in Balboa Park and dedicated to functional art found around the world. Other than their permanent collection, the current exhibits include polymer clay, an artist with a great attention to detail who also works in many mediums, and an exhibit on Finnish design. There are many fashion and jewelry pieces in the permanent collection created out of materials one wouldn't normally expect. The Mingei also has an extensive library downstairs underneath the museum, which contains reference books regarding the types of art found in the museum and books on the areas these crafts are found.
